![]() The only Kennel Club registered and recognised society for the Bracco Italiano in the U.K. |
Welcome to the Bracco Italiano website. We hope you are able to find all the information that you need about our wonderful breed. You will find contact details for members of the committee who will all give an enthusiastic response to your enquiries and help you in any way that they can. The Bracco Italiano, sometimes known as the Italian Pointer, is a very ancient breed in Italy; in fact it may be one of the earliest gundog types featuring in frescos of the 14th century. The breed has become quite popular across Europe but although introduced to this country in the 1980's we find ourselves at the beginning of the 21st century still with less than 300 dogs registered with the KC in the UK. The Bracco Italiano was originally used in Italy for hunting birds and is now a respected part of the HPR or general purpose gundog group. As a companion the Bracco is an even tempered and loyal family dog. He benefits from regular mental stimulation which can be traditional 'gundog' work, obedience, agility or any other task that you like to set him. If you would like to see some Bracchi, please visit the Events section Calendar for a list of shows and Game Fairs where they will be represented. At the AGM the members asked that our breed standard be amended to specify “tri colour undesirable” , as it will signal to judges our thoughts on this non standard colour, should any dogs of this colour be shown. The BIS have requested this amendment with the KC and they have responded stating that the matter should be put before the whole membership, this will be done at the next General Meeting.
The committee would like to welcome the following new members to the society; Lori Dempster Liz Dunhill
Forthcoming judges for BIS Open Shows are confirmed as: Feb 11 Mrs Keeley Newman-Jones (Haunsperg) Sept 11 Mrs Kim Parris (Bonario) Feb 12 Mr Tony Taylor (Maursett) Sept 12 Mr John Abraham (Ardenstorm)
